Valle de Viñales

Locating Pinar del Río on the map of Cuba is simple: this province occupies the westernmost tip of the island, a geographical position that makes it unique. Cubans affectionately call it “Pinar,” a name that stems from its lush pine forests and the network of rivers that cross the territory.

Only two hours away from Havana by road, Pinar del Río surprises visitors with exotic landscapes and incomparable natural wealth. Among its attractions are places like Viñales, María La Gorda, La Güira Park, Che’s Cave and the idyllic keys of the region.

Viñales: A dream site among hillocks

A must on any itinerary, this picturesque town is surrounded by majestic rounded hillocks known as mogotes, with multicolored rustic houses among tobacco plantations that create a unique atmosphere. Here, nature combines with centuries-old traditions. Be sure to visit the Mural of Prehistory, a monumental work painted on the side of a limestone mogote, with colors that contrast with the green of the surrounding valley. Another unmissable destination is the Cueva del Indio, a cave you enter on foot before completing the tour by sailing in a boat through its subterranean waters.

The land of Cuban tobacco

Pinar del Río is the cradle of the best tobacco in the world and witnessing its elaboration process is a fascinating experience. We recommend joining specialized excursions, which usually include visits to tobacco plantations and the opportunity to enjoy an authentic, freshly-rolled cigar.

Pinar del Río’s deep sea

The largest black coral reserve in the Caribbean borders Pinar del Río, which is ideal for those who wish to enjoy ecological tourism and practice nautical sports. At the María la Gorda diving center, there are more than 60 dive sites, located in such a way as to allow contact with the marine flora and fauna.

With its mixture of adventure, culture and landscapes, Pinar del Río is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating destinations in Cuba and the Caribbean.
